Starting January 2025, Palembang City Government Bans Business Actors From Using Plastic Bags
JAKARTA - The Palembang City Government, South Sumatra, has banned business actors from using plastic bags to reduce plastic waste starting January 2025.
In this case, Acting Mayor of Palembang Cheka Virgowansyah said that his party issued a circular prohibiting the use of plastic bags to reduce plastic waste starting January 2025.
He explained, Palembang City has a population of 1.7 million people, of which each population will produce at least 0.4 kilograms of garbage.
The 30 percent of the waste generated from the entire waste is plastic waste and produces up to 1,000 to 1,500 tons per day and will be decomposed for hundreds of years.

He added that the way to reduce the waste was from the source, namely from each resident's house, office and other places.
He appealed to all residents to reduce the use of the plastic in order to create a clean Palembang City, because there is less plastic, there will also be a small accumulation of waste in the final waste disposal site.
