Donald Trump Wants To Keep The TikTok Platform In The US
JAKARTA After meeting TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew on Monday, December 23, Elected President Donald Trump increasingly showed his determination to protect the platform.
In a press conference held on the same day, according to a Reuters report, Trump said he had a 'hot interest' with TikTok. The reason is, Trump's campaign during the election period was successfully carried out on the platform.
The day before meeting Chew, Trump also briefly discussed TikTok while attending the AmericaFest. The former president seems to want to show the public that he is against the ban on the operation of TikTok in the US.
"I think we should start thinking because, you know, we're already using TikTok, and we're getting a great response with billions of views, billions and billions of views," Trump said in front of the AmericaFest participants.
Trump also revealed that he had seen the chart containing TikTok's number of views and history of success in the US. According to Trump, this ByteDance subsidiary should still be competing in the US market alongside Meta and other tech giants.
"They (TikTok) brought me a chart, and it was a recording, and it was so beautiful to see, and when I saw it, I said, 'Maybe we should keep this thing for a while'," Trump said.

TikTok will be banned from operating in the US on January 19 due to divestment regulations. The company will have to separate from ByteDance, a Chinese company, if it still wants to operate in the US.
Both TikTok and ByteDance strongly reject the rule. Both are still struggling to defend their positions, even waiting for an official decision from the US Supreme Court. Luckily, the Supreme Court is still willing to listen to the appeal of TikTok.
Trump has not been able to do anything for now because he is not yet officially president. It is not clear what Trump will do in the future, moreover, this rule will be officially enforced before the elected president takes office.
