Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid Receives Commitment from Grab and OVO to Support Eradication of Online Gambling

JAKARTA - In their meeting with the Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, Grab Indonesia and OVO committed to eradicating all online gambling activities in Indonesia.

Both digital platforms have taken concrete steps to monitor, identify, and block transactions and accounts suspected of being related to online gambling activities.

"We have carried out strict monitoring, identification, and blocking of transactions and accounts suspected of being online gambling. As a result, from January to December 2024, the value of online gambling transactions that we have successfully detected and blocked has decreased significantly," said OVO President Director Karaniya Dharmasaputra in a written statement received by VOI on Tuesday, December 24.

Karaniya emphasized that this step is a real manifestation of our commitment to supporting the direction of the Minister of Communication and Digital to create a safe digital ecosystem.

Not only committed to eradicating online gambling, Grab Indonesia and OVO are also committed to making the Free Nutritious Meals program a success, which is a work program of President Prabowo Subianto.

Country Managing Director of Grab Indonesia, Neneng Goenadi, explained that they have tested this program in three districts, namely Kebumen, Kulonprogo, and Langowan, Minahasa Regency. The program covers 1,500 students and 126 teachers in seven schools.

"We are running this program according to the direction of the Minister of Communication and Digital with a focus on three main things: the use of end-to-end technology, meeting the cleanliness and nutrition standards of the National Nutrition Agency, and measuring social and economic impacts," said Neneng.

Meutya also emphasized the importance of expanding the reach of the program to more regions. "The Ministry of Communication and Digital is ready to be a liaison to encourage synergy between our digital platforms and ecosystems, so that this program can target areas in need," said Meutya Hafid.
