Mahfud MD Reminds Regional Heads Not To Corrupt And Fulfill Their Political Promises

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Legal And Security Politics (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD asked regional heads of the results of the 2020 Regional Elections to avoid corrupt behavior. He also asked them to carry out the mandate of the people as best they could.

This was conveyed by Mahfud when giving virtual direction to 184 regional heads of the 2020 regional elections on Wednesday, April 14.

"The regional heads who have been appointed to carry out the mandate as best they can, avoid corruption, and as much as possible fulfill their political promises", Mahfud said in his written statement quoted Thursday, April 15.

In addition, the former Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) also advised that the local government always coordinates and synergizes in various policies. Including, security policies in the region.

"We need strong synergy between the Central government and local government. Synergy is very important because without it, the policy between the Center and the Region is impossible to implement", he said.

The policy requested by Mahfud to be well-coordinated is the policy of banning homecoming during Eid Al-Fitr 2021. This ban was made to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

In addition, Mahfud also reminded regional heads to tighten and enforce health protocols in the community. Especially, in the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr.

Moreover, regional heads need to maintain their legitimacy. Because those who were elected through the 2020 regional elections are mandataries of the people.

"Regional heads elected in local elections are mandataries of the people that we need to maintain their legitimacy", he concluded.
