Turkish Foreign Minister, Iran And Russia Meet In Doha Tomorrow To Discuss Syria

JAKARTA - Foreign ministers Turkey, Iran, and Russia will meet in Doha on Saturday, December 7 to discuss the Syrian insurgent movement.

Syrian rebels have won their biggest victory on the battlefield since civil war began 13 years ago as well as dealt a crushing blow to President Bashar al-Assad.

After years of being locked on the front lines, rebels seized the main city of Aleppo in the north last week before moving forward to downtown Hama, and capturing strategic city centers for the first time.

Turkey, Russia and Iran routinely hold talks on Syria's future in trilateral format as part of what is known as the Astana peace process. Meanwhile, Turkey, a NATO member, supports political and armed opposition, Russia and Iran support Assad.

The source said the three ministers were expected to meet on the sidelines of the Doha Forum on Saturday for the Astana process, but did not provide further information.

On Monday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke with his counterpart from Iran Abbas Araqchi after their talks in Ankara.

Fidan said new efforts would be made to revive the Astana process.

Since the start of the new conflict, Ankara has asked Assad to involve the Syrian people to find a political solution. They denied being involved in rebel operations and said they did not want to see a new wave of migrants heading towards its border.
