Donald Trump Appoints Two Of His Besans Occupying The Position Of Ambassador And Advisor For Central Arab-East Affairs
JAKARTA - United States President-elect Donald Trump chose his two besans to occupy an important position in his upcoming government.
On Sunday, Trump announced billionaire Mass Boulos as his senior adviser on Arab and Middle East affairs.
Although not mentioned in Trump's announcement, Boulos is the father-in-law of the elected president's daughter, Tiffany. He was deeply involved in the campaign for Trump in the American Muslim community in the state of the battlefield.
Trump praised Boulos as "a highly respected leader in the business world, with extensive experience on the international scene."
"Massad is a dealmaker and loyal supporter of peace in the Middle East. He will be a strong supporter for the United States, and its interests, and I am delighted to have it in our team!" Trump wrote on Truth Social, quoted by CNN December 3.
The day before, Trump appointed real estate developer Charles Kushner to serve as the next US Ambassador to France. Kushner is the father of Jared Kushner, who married Trump's daughter, Ivanka. He was forgiven by Trump in 2020 after being convicted of federal charges in 2005.
The choice of his two daughter-in-law's father-in-law to occupy important positions underlines how Trump will continue his precedent by relying on trusted family members in his second term of office.
Trump has long relied on his family members to play a political role, raising questions about conflicts of interest and nepotism. From 2017 to 2021, his daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, served as senior advisers at the West Wing office, providing input on various issues.
Kushner is one of the main negotiators of Abraham Accords, a pact that normalizes relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, and is expected to continue to advise Trump on Middle Eastern issues from outside the White House.
Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump said he did not plan to return to Washington in any formal capacity.
