PAPUA - Jayapura Resort (Polres) has deployed an Inafis team to investigate the fire at Pharaa Sentani Market.

A fire broke out at the Pharaa Market or Pasar Baru Sentani and scorched dozens of kiosks on Monday, December 2 in the morning.

The fire has scorched dozens of kiosks and caused significant material losses, said Jayapura Police Chief AKBP Umar Nasatekay in Sentani, Monday, December 2, confiscated by Antara.

According to the Police Chief, the fire began to grow at around 02.30 WIT and was only successfully extinguished at around 05.30 WIT.

"We have deployed an Inafis team to conduct a crime scene (TKP) to explore the cause of this fire," he said.

He explained the initial information received by his party that the fire was thought to have started from the back of Block C, but the exact cause of the news could not be ascertained.

"We have not been able to ascertain the exact cause of the fire because it is still in the process of being investigated," he said.

He added that witness Rahman, a basic food trader at Phaara Sentani Market, first realized the fire after being told by his son.

"Initially I saw a fire from the back of Block C, in a short time, the fire spread to other stalls because most of the buildings were made of wood," said the Police Chief in accordance with witness statements at the TKP.

Furthermore, it was conveyed that the Jayapura Police's water canon car and fire engines were deployed to extinguish the fire, but the density of buildings and flammable materials made the fire spread quickly.

"We can confirm that there were no casualties in this incident, but material losses are estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah, most of the traders have lost their wares," he said.

He said he would coordinate with local governments to provide emergency assistance to victims.
