Jayapura Police Chief: KNPB Tunggangi Demo Untuk Ganggu Pilkada 2024

PAPUA - Jayapura City Police Chief Kombes Victor Mackbon stated that the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) was riding a demonstration and aimed at disrupting the smooth running of the 2024 Pilkada.

The demonstration driven by the KNPB ran in the lower abe circle or to be precise at the Abepura traffic light on Friday, November 15, and was dissolved for disturbing public order.

"Since Thursday (14 November) the KNPB has been advised not to take long march actions, but to do so and because the action has disrupted public order and closed the road, disbandment is carried out," said Victor in Jayapura, Friday, November 15, which was confiscated by Antara.

Victor explained that Jayapura City Police personnel had also given a policy so that they would convey their aspirations on the spot, but there was no response, so the police took steps to disperse the masses according to the procedure.

The crowd carrying the KNPB flag had fought back, causing one of the members of the National Police to become a victim and is now being treated at Bhayangkara Hospital, so they asked the corlap to take responsibility.

"It is true that one member became a victim and suffered injuries to the mouth and eyes," he said.

He said the injuries suffered by members were still being investigated whether they were caused by stones or tantrums from the masses, because the disbandment by members was in accordance with the procedure.

The Jayapura City Police Chief admitted that the demonstration was indeed carried out to raise the issue of transmigration, but all of them were boarded by the KNPB who wanted to separate themselves from the Republic of Indonesia.

"The demonstration was carried out aimed at disrupting the smooth implementation of the regional elections in Jayapura City," he said.

As many as 500 personnel were deployed to secure the demonstration.
