Malaysia Prepares To Face The Threat Of 883 Flooded Schools In The Aftermath Of The Northeast Of Monsum

JAKARTA - A total of 883 schools from elementary, junior high, high school levels in Malaysia are at high risk of flooding entering the rainy season or northeastern monosum.

Malaysia's Director General of Education, Azman Adnan, said the hundreds of schools covered 227 schools in Sarawak; Sabah (208); Pahang (93); Kelantan (91); Terengganu (90) and Perak (45).

He said, apart from Selangor, 42 schools were identified as at risk followed by Kedah (23); Kuala Lumpur (19); Johor (19); Penang (15); Land of Nine (10) and Melaka (one).

In this regard, the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM) has taken the first steps to deal with the start of the northeastern monsoon from November to early next year.

"We are fully prepared to activate committees at the state, district and national levels. In Terengganu itself, 80 schools are ready to be used as Temporary Management Centers (PPS) in the event of flooding," he said after inaugurating the event 'Secretary Budi Sejunjung Kasih Kenangan Abadi 2024' Department of Education Terengganu Malaysia, today, quoted from Bernama.

Azman said the KPM had also increased cooperation with relevant stakeholders and the involvement of KPM staff as flood volunteers.

"KPM also provides counseling services through Smart Support Team (SST) and Academic Support Team (AST) to assist in moral support. Volunteer equipment is also provided for post-flood cleaning work," he said.
