PHR Encourages Oil Production Efficiency Through Digital Transformation

JAKARTA As the largest oil producer in Indonesia, Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) realizes that the role of technology is very important for all its workers, both in the field and in business management.

Currently, the Rokan Working Area (WK) consists of 6,400 square kilometers which includes 11,300 active oil wells. With so many areas to produce oil, its operating scale becomes large and complex so that digital technology and innovation are needed.

According to VP Information Technology PHR Triatmojo Rosewanto, the company has succeeded in digital transformation. The application of this technology not only increases the number of oil barrels production per day, but also improves the safety of its workers.

"These technologies are not only able to support increased productivity, but also ensure operational safety and mitigate environmental risks, in accordance with our priorities to maintain energy sustainability in Indonesia," Triatmojo said on Monday, November 11.

There are a number of technologies that Pertamina's subsidiary uses, such as Well Monitoring Systems which utilizes Rod Pump Simulator and Rod Pump Controller (RPC) to collect data in real-time so that production activities can be monitored.

In addition, PHR also adopts Computer Vision to monitor workers and heavy equipment in the field via CCTV. This technology can detect whether workers in the field have worn complete security equipment, from helmets to safety shoes.

For oil well maintenance needs, PHR also uses the Digital Innovation Center (DICE) as an operational control center. Triatmojo explained that DEE, "takes advantage of big data to monitor wells in real-time and make important decisions."

Another innovation that is no less important is the use of Mixed Reality (MR) technology using the HoloLens device developed by Microsoft. This technology is needed to reduce the team's mobilization needs to the field and simulate work procedures in dangerous areas.

"We are benefiting (technology) to increase production, increase efficiency, improve security and safety of operations," said Triatmojo. "The innovations that we do always start with reliable infrastructure. Apart from being reliable, it must be safe, so cyber security is important."

There are three things that PHR focuses on while optimizing business through digital transformation, namely safety to environmental regeneration, increasing the number of drilling and production, to developing human resources and collaboration.
