Apple Vision Pro Economic Version Can Be Thiner And Brighter
JAKARTA - Apple is reportedly considering a lower but thinner resolution screen for an affordable version of the Apple Vision Pro. The Cupertino-based company is close to setting options for slimmer OLED screen technology than today's models.
In 2023, there is speculation that the upcoming Apple Vision Pro variant will be equipped with a brighter screen. Then, in June 2024, Apple is reportedly looking for additional component suppliers for this new device.
According to a recent report from The Elec, Apple has two options related to this screen technology. Apple's top choice is an OLED glass panel with color filters placed on it, known as W-OLED+CF. This technology is believed to be able to produce brighter screens for Apple Vision Pro in the future.
Apple targets a screen resolution of around 1,500 ppi for this model, compared to about 3,391 ppi on the first generation Apple Vision Pro. Although this method is complicated and requires a low-temperature process, it is believed to be able to produce a brighter look.

Samsung is also reportedly developing a W-OLED+CF panel for Apple, even preparing research equipment to accelerate the development process. This technology is similar to the one used on Samsung foldable phones, but with a higher resolution to meet Apple Vision Pro standards.
Another alternative, which is still under consideration, is the screen method with two layers of glass. The color filter is applied to one layer, while the second layer uses W-OLED, but this option will make the screen thicker.
In September 2024, Apple is also said to have switched to OLED on Silicon technology, with Japan Display Inc (JDI) sending glass-based panels for consideration.
