Thousands of Students Storm DIY Regional Police Headquarters, Demanding Resolve of Stabbing Case of 2 Friends

YOGYAKARTA - Thousands of students from various regions in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) came to the DIY Regional Police Headquarters (Mapolda), Sleman, Tuesday, October 29.

They demanded the completion of the stabbing case of two students of the Al-Munawwir Islamic Boarding School, Krapyak, Yogyakarta on Wednesday, October 23.

The masses consisting of students from Islamic boarding schools, the ranks of the DIY Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Management (PWNU), PW Ansor DIY, Muslimat, Fatayat, and IPNU-IPPNU arrived starting at 09.00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) using motorbikes and buses.

"We urge law enforcement officers to immediately arrest all perpetrators, process them legally, and bring them to court to be held accountable for their actions," said the action coordinator Abdul Muiz while delivering his speech in the yard of the DIY Regional Police Headquarters, quoted by Antara.

In addition, Muiz also asked for the DIY regional regulation (Perda) on the control, supervision of alcoholic beverages, and the prohibition of mixed drinks to be immediately reviewed and revised.

"To be more effective in preventing criminal acts caused by the consumption of alcohol," said the Head of PW Ansor DIY.

In the midst of the mass action, the DIY Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Pol Suwondo Nainggolan, stated that he was fully responsible for resolving the case.

"Yesterday's incident really shocked us, and first of all I would like to express my sympathy and regret for the incident and I would like to express my responsibility for the incident," said Suwondo.

Suwondo said that at the beginning of handling the incident, the police managed to arrest two perpetrators and then increased to five people.

Then from the examination of the five people, on Monday, October 28 evening, his staff again arrested someone who was suspected of gathering the perpetrators.

"And what is more, thank God, the perpetrator who carried out the stabbing was caught last night at 23.00 WIB," he said.

Regarding the details of the results of handling the case, Suwondo promised to immediately present it through a press conference on Tuesday, October 29 afternoon.

"We cannot release it immediately, there are still procedures that must be followed because this concerns the fate of people. We need time, and we promise, this afternoon we will release the perpetrators," he said.

The chairman of the DIY PWNU KH. Zuhdi Muhdlor said that the arrival of thousands of students to the DIY Regional Police was not to show off their strength, but to convey their support so that the police would immediately complete the handling of the stabbing case of the two students.

"We are not for a 'show of force', but a 'show of love' to the Regional Police Chief. Thank you very much, the Regional Police Chief and the police in DIY who have fulfilled our demands," he said.

Zuhdi said that the stabbing case of the two Krapyak Islamic Boarding School students was a painful gift in the midst of the 2024 Santri Day commemoration.

However, he appreciated the ranks of the DIY Regional Police who were responsive and quick to take action to arrest the alleged perpetrators of the stabbing one by one.

"We are grateful for the arrest of the perpetrators and we are ready to cooperate for the next process. To the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, we express our gratitude for the quick response in coordinating with the Regency and City Governments," he said.

The peaceful action was closed with the reading of salawat, joint prayers, the reading of the youth oath, and then the masses dispersed in an orderly manner.

It is known that the stabbing case occurred on Wednesday, October 23 on Jalan Prawirotaman, Mergangsan, DI Yogyakarta.

Head of Public Relations of the Yogyakarta Police, AKP Sujarwo, explained that the incident began when a group of teenagers numbering around 25 people were relaxing in the area.

At that time, they were consuming alcoholic drinks at a cafe on the east side of Jalan Parangtritis, Brontokusuman, Yogyakarta.

Then, several people from the group approached the place where the person selling satay was and stabbed the satay buyer with sharp weapons. After carrying out the stabbing, the group immediately left the location.

This stabbing incident resulted in two victims who were students at the Krapyak Islamic Boarding School, suffering injuries. The first victim with the initials SF (19), a student from Rembang, Central Java. He suffered a torn wound on the left side of his stomach and received three stitches.

The second victim with the initials MA (23), a student from Pati, Central Java. The victim suffered injuries to the head, hands, and feet due to being hit by a hard object
