Bawaslu Investigate Allegations Of Religious Leaders Facilitating The Karawang Cabup Candidate Campaign At The Mosque

JAKARTA - The General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) received a report on the involvement of religious leaders allegedly facilitating campaign activities for one of the 2024 Karawang Regent Election candidates (Pilbup) in houses of worship.

"We have received the report file. We will then handle it," said Commissioner of Bawaslu Karawang Ahmad Safei, in Karawang, West Java (West Java), Saturday, October 27, confiscated by Antara.

He conveyed that the report was from a group of people who were members of the Haji Aep Volunteer Action entered the Karawang Bawaslu on Friday, October 25.

According to him, every public report will be followed up by Bawaslu Karawang.

"We will conduct a study, if it turns out that the reporting file still needs to be corrected, we will invite the reporter to provide information," he said.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Haji Aep Volunteer Action, Fajar Try Suari, said that his party reported a religious figure suspected of facilitating the campaign activities of the number one pair, Acep Jamhuri-Gina Swara at the mosque.

Information on the alleged campaign at the mosque was initially known from the whastApp status of an Acep-Gina volunteer containing photos of activities at a mosque in Rengasdengklok Selatan Village, Rengasdengklok District on October 17, 2024.

"In the WhatsApp status post, apart from displaying photos of activities at the Warudong Mosque with residents, the volunteer also added the 'haturnuhun' (thank you) caption Kyai Nurjen. The thing that caught our attention, in the photo, they posed by showing their number one finger. The photo was also processed with the photo of the pair number one," he said.

Fajar deeply regrets the incident. Because places of worship should not be used as a means of campaign activities, as stated in KPU Regulation 13 of 2024 Article 57 Paragraph 1 letter i.

"We deeply regret what happened like that, why did it happen. Why is there a religious figure who is suspected of facilitating campaign activities for certain candidate pairs in mosques. Even though in mosques it cannot be used for campaigns," he said.

Due to this condition, his party reported to Bawaslu Karawang. He hopes that Bawaslu Karawang will follow up on his report.

The regional elections in Karawang which will be held on November 27, 2024, will be attended by two pairs of candidates for regent and deputy regent. Both are the pair Aep Syaepuloh-Maslani and Acep Jamhuri-Gina Fadlia Swara.
