Pixel Camera 9.6 Launched: Underwater Mode, Vertical Panorama, And Astro Shortcuts

JAKARTA - Google has launched the Pixel Camera version 9.6 for all supported devices as part of the Feature Drop in October 2024. While the Pixel 9 series currently uses version 9.5, older devices remain in version 9.4.

Version 9.6 of the Pixel Camera is now more widely distributed through the Play Store. Here is the summary:

For the Pixel Series 9:

For Pixel 6 to Pixel 8a:

For Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL, the 9.6 camera adds an underwater photography and video function to restore the original color. Before inserting the device into a waterproof casing, users can go to Camera Settings > Continue to enable a new toggle at the very bottom. Google will display a Photoography/underwatershot notice'' at the top of the viewer window.

Pixel 9 device users can now retrieve Vertical Panorama rather than being limited to horizontal formats, which previously required users to "turn their phones".

For Pixel 6 to 8a which still uses Pixel Camera 9.4, access to Astrophotography at 9.6 is now easier. After logging into the Night Sight tab, users can tap the button in the lower right corner for new controls above the shutter. This control allows users to select Astro mode, with Google noting Until [x] minutes with a set 5-second timer.

Meanwhile, version 9.6 also stores strings for Quick Access Control which allows users to adjust white balance, luminosity, and shadows by tapping the viewfinder. This feature is similar to the previous camera interface that placed the slider on the left/right edge of the screen, although this feature has not been seen to be active at this time.

With this update, Pixel users can now enjoy a variety of new features that enrich their photography experience
