Clean Water Company Becomes Victim Of Cyber Attack, 18 US Military Installations Affected

JAKARTA - American Water, the largest clean water company in the United States (US) announced it was a victim of a cyber attack. Customers are exempt from bill fees.

Citing CBN News, Tuesday, October 8, the company said the cyberattack activity was discovered for the first time on Thursday last week. Protection measures were then taken, such as turning off the related system.

Although American Water has yet to detect its facilities affected by the attack. They suggest their staff are working hard to investigate the nature and scope of the cyberattack.

The company has also reported this cyberattack to law enforcement. As an effort to compensate for service operations, customers will not be given a fee bill within the period of interference.

American Water, which focuses on water utilities and officed waste in New Jersey, provides services to more than 14 million customers in 14 states, including 18 US military installations.

In February 2024, cyber attacks also hit Change Healthcare, a UnitedHealth subsidiary, causing patients unable to get prescription drugs while hospitals and pharmacies did not accept payments for more than a week.

Four months passed, a company in the US that supplies software to manage sales, CDK Global, was also a victim of cyber attacks. As a result, business disruptions occurred in 15,000 car dealers, the operations of a number of dealers even had to be temporarily closed.
