Fisherman In Rokan Hilir Riau Killed By Crocodile

A fisherman named Hariono alias Undul (34) was found dead as a result of a crocodile attack while looking for fish in the Rokan River, Rimba Melintang, Rokan Hilir, Riau.

According to a police report, the incident occurred at around 00.10 WIB when the victim went to the river with his younger brother, Amat Nasib, to look for fish.

The victim then joined several other fishermen, including Dedi Kurniawan (39), in the river.

"At that time, witness Dedi Kurniawan and several other fishermen saw that the victim was no longer on his canoe at around 05.00 WIB," said Rohil Police Chief AKBP Isa Imam Syahroni as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 8.

The witness, who realized the victim was not visible, immediately contacted his younger brother, Aman Nasib and suspected that the victim had been attacked by a crocodile.

At around 06.00 WIB, Dedi and several other fishermen saw the victim being pulled by a crocodile into the middle of the river.

Although the crocodile finally released the victim, the rescue effort was too late.

"The witness tried to pull the victim onto the canoe, but the victim's life could not be saved," explained Isa.

As a result of being attacked by these wild animals, the victim suffered bite wounds to his hands, stomach, and legs, as well astangling on his face.

After being evacuated at Tangkahan Jembatan Jumrah, the victim was taken to the funeral home by ambulance.

This is not the first time a similar incident has happened. In recent times, three conflicts between humans and crocodiles have been recorded in Rokan Hilir Regency.

"We urge residents to be more careful when doing activities around crocodile-prone waters, especially at night and early morning," said AKBP Isa.
