It's Official, Periscope Is Closed

JAKARTA - Periscope, the application that popularized live streaming from mobile phones for the first time was officially closed, as of April 1 yesterday. This service ended its existence after six years, accompanying netizens.

Periscope has even been removed from the app store and its features are no longer usable. This is as quoted by VOI from The Verge, Friday, April 2.

"This is the end. Our final goodbye. Today is the last day the Periscope app is available", Periscope said via Twitter.

Twitter as the owner of Periscope said that if the closure of this service was carried out as the number of users decreased, since March 2015. The Periscope application itself has been in a status of "unsustainable maintenance mode" for the last time.

However, the Periscope website is still accessible and displays archives of public broadcasts stored on it. Periscope users can also download live streaming data via Twitter.

Unfortunately, Periscope has to be turned off when many social media platforms are currently competing to provide live streaming features. Periscope had become the prima donna in this regard, before the presence of IG Live, Facebook Live, and others.

And what is even more painful in December 2016, Twitter actually added a live streaming feature in its application. So that indirectly eliminates many functions of Periscope as a standalone service.
