BNN Thwarts Circulation Of 2.76 Kilograms Of Up To 114 Kg Of Marijuana

JAKARTA - The National Narcotics Agency thwarted the circulation of 2.76 kg of heroin, 9,837.95 grams or 9.83 kg of crystal methamphetamine, and 114.23 kg of marijuana, with eight suspects.

"The failure to smuggle narcotics is the result of cooperation and collaboration between BNN and the TNI, Polri, Customs and Excise, Airport Authority, and ASDP," said Deputy for Eradication of BNN RI Inspector General I Wayan Sugiri as reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 4.

The various pieces of evidence came from three different cases. Evidence of heroin and crystal methamphetamine came from the international network, while marijuana came from Aceh and was being sent to Java Island.

From the disclosure of the three narcotics crime cases and the amount of narcotics evidence that was confiscated, BNN managed to save 82,310 children of the nation from potential narcotics abuse.

"Disclosure of cases of smuggling heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana is proof that narcotics are a global organized threat, so it requires collaboration between agencies to anticipate the entry of illegal goods," he said.

The first cases, Sugiri explained, the joint BNN and Customs and Excise team managed to arrest three suspects with the initials ZM, SS, and AH with evidence of 2,760 grams of heroin.

This case is a development of the previous case, where BNN secured methamphetamine from Laos which was controlled by a suspect with the initials DA.

DA, continued Sugiri, is suspected of being an international narcotics courier recruiter.

"Currently it is still abroad and is on the wanted list (DPO)," said Sugiri.

In the second case, the BNN team in collaboration with the Sekayam Police managed to arrest 2 suspects with the initials A and RR for possession of 10 packs of methamphetamine.

The methamphetamine was found by Pamtas (border security) on the Indonesia-Malaysia border, Sungai Tekam Village, West Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, the third case was the result of an investigation by the Banten Province BNN team who suspected a fully loaded truck. After conducting a search, the Banten Province BNN team found four sack packages which contained marijuana-type narcotics weighing a total of 114,230 grams.

"The Banten Province BNN team then carried out a controlled delivery and succeeded in arresting TM together with SC and S," said Sugiri.

The suspects were charged under Article 114 (2) in conjunction with Article 111 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (1) sub-Article 112 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (1) of Law no. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with a maximum threat of the death penalty or life imprisonment.
