Startup4Industry 2021 Program, Ministry Of Industry's Steps To Encourage Startups To Become Industrial Growth Accelerators

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry encourages startups to become industrial growth accelerators through the Startup4Industry program entitled 'Quick Adoption, Lasting Growth: Quick Adoption of Technology to Continue to Grow'.

The Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said this program was a strategy for industrial transformation to become more modern by utilizing technological solutions from Indonesian tech startups.

"We are currently in an era where digitalization is accelerating rapidly, therefore industry players must begin to transform by adopting technology. Partnering with startups can be a solution to help transform industrial technology", he said in a written statement, Thursday, April 1.

According to Agus, the quality of the Startup4industry program has been able to bring startups to go global. A total of 23 Startup4industry participants passed the selection and will appear at the biggest technology exhibition, the Hannover Messe 2021 which will take place on April 12-16 2021, where Indonesia becomes a partner country to demonstrate Indonesia's economic transformation through Making Indonesia 4.0.

On the same occasion, the Director-General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries, Gati Wibawaningsih, explained that the Startup4Industry 2021 program has a series of activities that will last until December 2021.

"There is a technology implementation competition that will encourage startups to carry out implementation projects in the industry, Tech Link or meeting startup businesses with industries, especially Small and Medium Industry (IKM), as well as webinars to socialize and invite industry players to transform with technology from startups", said Gati.

Gati said that this program was implemented as part of the government's priority project, Making Indonesia 4.0, by developing technology-based startups that could help the industry. Especially small and medium industries.

Furthermore, Gati said that the implementation of the Startup4industry program during 2018-2020 had successfully made a number of achievements. Among them the number of competition participants reached 514 startups, there were 15 implementation projects carried out by startups at IKM, 49 IKMs using technology solutions from startups, and 23 Startup4industry participants successfully passed the selection to appear at the Hannover Messe 2021.

Gati said that the Startup4industry program opens opportunities for all parties such as industry players, academics, the private sector, incubators, and local governments to participate and build collaboration.

"Because this is a joint movement of Making Indonesia 4.0, we also appreciate those who support this program to continue to have a positive impact on both startups and industry players", he said.
