Biden Will Visit Africa For The First Time October 2024, Discuss Cross-Country Railway Projects

JAKARTA - United States (US) President Joe Biden is scheduled to make his first visit to the African continent for the first time as head of state.

The announcement of visiting Africa was delivered by the White House at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The White House said Biden will travel to Angola next month and stay in the capital Luanda from October 13-15 to discuss economic partnerships, including Africa's first transcontinental rail network project connecting the Atlantic Ocean and the Indies.

"The President's visit to Luanda celebrates the evolution of US-Angola relations, underlines the United States' ongoing commitment to African partners, and shows how collaborating to solve common challenges provides results for the people of the United States and across the African continent," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement quoted by CBN News, Wednesday, September 25.

This is also Biden's attempt to keep his campaign promise during the presidential election about five years ago. His last promise to go to Africa was made in May 2024, when Biden had not been replaced by his party mate, Kamalla Haris in the 2024 US Presidential Election contestation.

"I plan to leave in February [2025] after I am re-elected," said Biden while welcoming Kenyan President William Ruto at the White House in May 2024.
