Google Connects Underwater Internet Cables From North America To Indonesia
JAKARTA - Undersea cables made by Facebook and Google will soon be installed. The undersea cable will connect Indonesia, Singapore to North America. This undersea cable installation project is aimed at improving internet connections in various regions.
Through this project, two types of undersea cables will be prepared, namely Echo and Bifrost. Facebook said that the two cables were the first undersea cables crossing the Java sea route.
"They (the two cables) will increase the overall underwater (internet) capacity in the trans-pacific by about 70 percent", said Kevin Salvadori, vice president of Facebook Network Investments. Tuesday, March 30th
He added that the cable would later become a network that could connect North America to various regions in Indonesia. The plan is that the cable will optimize the internet network in Central and Eastern Indonesia.

Launching from Gadgets 360, the Echo cable was made in cooperation with Google's main company, Alphabet with XL Axiata. This submarine cable project is scheduled for completion in 2023.
Meanwhile, Bitfrost cable is the result of cooperation between an Indonesian company, Telkomsel, and a Singapore company, Keppel. This cable is predicted to be completed in 2024.
However, until now Salvadori has not disclosed the amount of investment for the big project. This is because the project still requires approval from the regulator.
Previously, Facebook had already planned to procure 3.000 km of optical fiber which would connect a thousand connection points in Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Java. The company owned by Mark Zuckerberg has also partnered with BaliTower to provide fast and cheap WiFi services.
