US Safety Commissioners Will Conduct Investigations On Metu And Shein

JAKARTA - CPSC (Consumer Product Security Commission) Commissioner Peter Feldman and Douglas Dziak released a joint statement asking their staff to evaluate the operations of foreign e-commerce sites, Temu and Shein.

These two e-commerce are known as platforms that sell baby clothes, kitchen utensils, and electronics at a cheaper price than the market.

"Today, we are asking the staff of the US Consumer Product Security Commission to evaluate the e-commerce platform Shein, Temu, and others to determine how these foreign-owned companies that rely on foreign suppliers fulfill their obligations under the Consumer Product Security Act," the statement read.

For this reason, the CPSC finally wanted to find out how much the actual cost was cut by the foreign platform to sell this product at a lower price.

"We are trying to better understand these companies, particularly their focus on direct delivery to low-value consumers," added the two Commissioners.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Temu told Engadget that it required "all sellers on its platform to comply with applicable laws and regulations, including those related to product safety."

The spokesman also said that their interests were in line with the US Consumer Product Security Commission (CPSC) in ensuring consumer protection and product safety. They will also follow any investigation.
