KY Asks 3 Judges Who Free Ronald Tannur To Be Fired, DPR Talks Legal Justice For The People

JAKARTA - The Judicial Commission has imposed sanctions on 3 judges who acquitted Gregorius Ronald Tannur in the form of permanent dismissal even with pension rights. The DPR assesses that this step shows that there is still justice and commitment to the enforcement of ethics and integrity of judges in Indonesia.

This is a positive step to ensure that ethical violations are not left alone. Indonesia still has justice. Transparency and accountability in law enforcement are priorities," said Deputy Chairman of Commission III Pangeran Khairul Saleh, Friday, August 30.

Previously, the public was furious by the decision of the Surabaya District Court (PN) judge who acquitted Ronald Tannur, of the case of abuse that made his girlfriend, Dini Sera Afrianti, dead. In his ruling, the chairman of the panel of judges at the Surabaya District Court, Erintuah Damanik, said Ronald was considered not proven guilty of a crime as charged by the Public Prosecutor.

The judge assessed that Ronald's statement that he was still trying to provide assistance to the victim at the critical time by taking him to the hospital was the main reason to release the son of the former member of the Indonesian House of Representatives. Apart from Erintuah Damanik, 2 other judges who decided to release Ronald Tannur were Mangapul and Heru Hanindyo.

The decision of the Surabaya District Court judge caused public anger, ranging from holding demonstrations to angry voices of netizens on social media. Commission III of the DPR also oversees this issue, including holding hearings with Dini's family who demand justice for victims.

The DPR's legal commission also held a meeting with the Judicial Commission (KY) and the Supreme Court (MA) regarding Ronald Tannur's acquittal. The prince himself, including the leadership of Commission III of the DPR, asked KY to enforce the code of ethics and take firm action against the three judges if it was proven that there were violations.

"KY's decision to dismiss the three judges who acquitted Ronald Tannur cannot be separated thanks to a joint escort with the people, including the contribution of various other elements of society who helped guard the creation of justice for victims," he said.

Pangeran said that increasing public participation in the process of supervision and law enforcement can ensure that the justice system remains transparent and accountable. According to him, KY's decision is also a form of justice for the people.

"Because the community feels that justice is injured in this problem. So the decision of KY in this case is also one proof of the realization of legal justice for the people, which we must both be grateful for," explained Prince.

"We hope that the dismissal sanction will have a stronger deterrent effect. Thank you Indonesian people who have participated in conducting good supervision so that justice in this country remains," he added.

The Judicial Commission revealed in a hearing with Commission III of the DPR that the three judges of the Surabaya District Court were given severe sanctions after undergoing an in-depth examination. The three judges were found guilty of convicting defendant Ronald Tannur free.

Commission III of the House of Representatives hopes that the decision of KY can increase public confidence in the justice system again. The public is said to need to see evidence that the judiciary is willing to take firm steps to maintain integrity and justice.

"It is important to ensure that the legal process carried out against the judges is carried out fairly and transparently. This step is a good example of supervisory institutions such as KY which function to maintain integrity and justice in the justice system even though our homework is still very large," said Pangeran.

Furthermore, the legislator from the South Kalimantan electoral district I assessed the need for systemic reform in the justice system in Indonesia so that there are appropriate consequences if there is a serious violation. The prince also said that efforts were also needed to strengthen the mechanism for supervision and prevention so that cases like this would not be repeated in the future.

"We hope that education and training for judges regarding ethics and integrity will be increased in order to prevent future violations," he said.

The prince also hopes that the Ronald Tannur case will serve as a reminder to all law enforcers, especially the judges. He also hopes that the community and the DPR will continue to oversee the judicial processes in Indonesia.

"Hopefully this will be a lesson for all judges in Indonesia to be more objective and try transparently. So as not to injure legal justice for the people," said Pangeran.

"And of course we hope that supervision in the judicial process does not stop here. KY must ensure that it continues to work professionally to oversee the court, and take firm action if there is a violation without waiting for a viral no justice," he concluded.
