Kominfo Hopes E-SIM Regulations Are Completed Before The Substitution Of Government
JAKARTA - The Directorate of Telecommunications, Directorate General of Post and Information Administration of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, will release regulations regarding the Utilization of Embedded Subscriber Identity Module (e-SIM) Technology.
Until now, the Director of Telecommunications at the Directorate General of PPI Kominfo Aju Widya Sari said that the regulation was in the finalization stage, after discussions were carried out to prepare for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
"So it has been through public consultations in the early months of 2024, so the process has been long. Now it's just a matter of harmonization at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights," said Aju at the Ngopi Bareng Kominfo event on Friday, August 30.
This rule is expected to be completed before the change of government in October 2024. Because according to Aju, regulations regarding e-SIM have gone through a long process from preparation to public consultation.
Furthermore, Aju also explained several points that will be regulated in this regulation. One of them is regarding the numbering format.
"Then (regulated) the provisioning, the provisioning system is also regulated. Then the e-SIM profiling must also be regulated, and others related as well, customer registration must also be done," he continued.

However, Aju added that the prepaid e-SIM registration scheme will be the same as the current physical SIM card using a NIK.
However, this rule will not require cellular operators to use e-SIM. Where Aju says this e-SIM can be applied to organizers who are ready.
"No (not mandatory), it's just the organizers who are ready for e-SM, he rules this, the rules are there, if it's not, it's still a physical base card, just walk with a physical card," he concluded.
