Soleman Ponto Talks About Intelligence, Napiter, To Prabowo's Leadership Style
JAKARTA - Head of the TNI's 2011-2013 Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais), Rear Admiral TNI (Purnawirawan) Soleman B. Ponto emphasized that the function of state intelligence must be maximized in handling terrorist convicts (Napiters). This was in response to the granting of remissions to 157 Napiters on Indonesia's 78th Anniversary (HUT), August 17.
There are always two tools from the state, by law and beyond the law. These two things must always be there for the prisoner (napiter). "By law it is finished, but he must always follow, that's beyond the law," Soleman said on the EdShareOn podcast with host Eddy Wijaya which aired on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. But, he (the singer) should not know if he is followed, later he will be angry. That's intelligence. he added.
Previously, the Government through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) granted remissions for Independence Day to a total of 175,510 inmates. A total of 157 of them are convicts, of which 26 prisoners are immediately released. So about the remission of the convict, the intelligence function must be carried out," said Soleman.
The Indonesian Navy figure who is proficient in playing the saxophone explained that intelligence in his supervision has notes that are the benchmarks for the government to make decisions. One of these notes, taken from the results of monitoring the daily activities of inmates after being released. So the government must be responsible. Why? Everything must be recorded, can be accounted for. That's the name anteden, recording people's sins," he said with a laugh.
In preventing terrorists, Soleman admitted that he did not agree with the term deradicalization. According to him, the term that is often used to return the convict to the NKRI lap does not have a clear purpose. In fact, he said that the term deradicalization often creates a partition with the convict. "In my opinion, the term deradicalization should be changed so that there is dialogue and an equalization of opinions with the terrorists," he said.
The man who once studied Civil Military Response To Terrorism also highlighted the overlap of rules in dealing with terrorism. For example, in the Terrorist Law, it mentions a ban on radical thinking, while other laws state that only their actions are punished. How can a match be? Think radically about what? For me, radicals are friends thinking, "said Soleman. Take a look at the TAP MPR, in which there is a ban on learning communists, it is forbidden by Leninis, that's clearly his name. But what is radical thinking? It's not clear! said the man who was born in Tahuna, North Sulawesi, November 6, 1955 added.

The Difference In Striking Jokowi and Prabowo's Leadership Styles To Eddy Wijaya, Soleman also gave an assessment of President Joko Widodo's leadership transition to Prabowo Subianto, who will be sworn in on October 20. He assessed that this leadership transition would be markedly different from the two.
Pak Jokowi and Pak Prabowo are two different figures. One was born from fighting violence, while the other (Jokowi) was born from trade violence, woodmen," he said.
According to Soleman, Jokowi as a person who has worked as a carpenter will certainly have a wooden company. Thus, this background makes Jokowi considers his company to be inherited to his children and grandchildren. Different, for example, someone who has been a member of a mass organization, for example the leader of the Galaruwa organization (Keep Pancasila Zamrud Equatorial). A Galaruwa leader certainly knows that his position cannot be inherited. There must be a process, "he said.
Meanwhile, Prabowo, continued Soleman, is a person who usually appoints subordinates who he considers capable of carrying out his duties. This cannot be separated from Prabowo's background as a leader within the TNI who often works on the battlefield. The style of leadership) will definitely have an effect," said Soleman.
However, Soleman understands Prabowo's difference with Jokowi in leading the country later. "That person will work based on where he grew up and how the environment affects him," said Soleman.
