KPU Will Consult With The DPR Following Up On The Constitutional Court's Decision On The Pilkada
The General Election Commission (KPU) will conduct consultations with the DPR to follow up on two Constitutional Court decisions, namely the threshold and age limit for nominating heads and deputy regional heads in the 2024 Pilkada.
KPU chairman Mochammad Afifuddin emphasized that his party had written to the DPR RI on Wednesday (21/8) as a form of following up on two Constitutional Court Decisions before determining the results of the revision of the KPU Regulation (PKPU) regarding the nomination of the head and deputy regional head of the 2024 Pilkada.
"Why are we doing this? We have experience, there used to be a Constitutional Court Decision in the presidential election process, Decision Number 90, which at that time we followed up, but consultations were not carried out for one reason or another, then in the DKPP decision (Ection Organizing Honorary Council) we were declared wrong, and given a stern and last warning," said Afifuddin as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 22.
Afifuddin explained, because of the experience during the 2024 election, his party prioritized consulting with the DPR.
"For the registration of regional head candidates which will start opening from August 27 to 29, 2024, Tuesday, so we are trying to communicate and communicate, including having prepared a draft," he explained.
He said the consultation paths taken by the KPU would be orderly in a procedure to avoid the experience of being reprimanded by the DKPP.

Previously, on Tuesday (20/8), the Constitutional Court changed the threshold for nominating heads and deputy regional heads through Decision Number 60/PUU-XXII/2024. The Constitutional Court canceled Article 40 paragraph (3) of the Pilkada Law and declared Article 40 paragraph (1) of the Conditional Unconstitutional Election Law.
Through this decision, the Constitutional Court stated that political parties that do not get seats in the DPRD can nominate pairs of candidates for heads and deputy regional heads.
The calculation of the requirements to propose a candidate pair is only based on the results of the legal votes acquired by political parties or coalitions of political parties in the election in the area concerned, which ranges from 6.5 to 10 percent.
Furthermore, through Decision Number 70/PUU-XXII/2024, the Constitutional Court emphasized that the calculation of the age requirements for regional head candidates, in Article 7 paragraph (2) letter e of the Pilkada Law, must be calculated since the determination of the candidate pair.
