Matraman Fire Kills 10 People, Deputy Governor Riza: Do Not Throw Away Cigarette Stub Carelessly

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria reminded the public to anticipate sources of fire that could cause fires in residential areas.

This was reflected in the fire in Matraman, East Jakarta, on Thursday, March 25. Riza said residents living in fire-prone areas must have awareness.

"For those who smoke, don't throw cigarette butts carelessly, don't burn the trash carelessly. Then pay attention to the socket, the factors that cause a short circuit. Pay attention to the gas stove. Everything must be a concern," said Deputy Governor Riza during a visit to the fire site, Thursday, March 25 evening.

Riza agreed with DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, who said that the cause of the Matraman fire was almost certainly not due to an electric short circuit, or a stove, but because a motorbike caught fire.

"The location of the motorbike is in the alley in front of the house and this house is a dead end, so the residents do not have access to get out. They are trapped at home, early in the morning, and resulted in the death of 10 people," said Riza.

Therefore, Riza asked residents to minimize the difficulties of residents in an effort to save themselves in the event of a disaster or fire.

"Please pay attention to placing the motorbike. Then the door must be careful, air circulation is also considered. Do not let people who do not have access to the exit," he said.
