Hilton DoubleTree Hotel Roof Collision Helicopter, Pilot Killed, Hundreds Of Guests Evacuated

JAKARTA - The helicopter crashed into the roof of the Hilton DoubleTree hotel in the tourist city of Cairns, Queensland, north of Australia. The accident killed the pilot and forced hundreds of guests to be evacuated.

Police said the helicopter flew from its hangar in an "unauthorized flight". But its pilot, who has not been identified, was declared dead at the scene.

Reported by Reuters on Monday, August 12, two hotel guests, an 80sman and a woman in her 70s, were sent home after being taken to hospital, state broadcaster ABC said.

It was reported that two helicopter propellers were released and one of them landed in the hotel's swimming pool. The forensic team will work closely with Australian transportation safety regulators to prepare an accident report.

The owner of the Nautilus Aviation helicopter said it was working with a police investigation.
