Russian Women's Chess Player Poisons Her Opponents With Mercury Powder, Discounts From All Competitions
LONDON - A Russian chess player is prohibited from participating in all competitions after trying to poison his opponent with mercury powder.
Amina Aakarova is currently being investigated by the Russian Chess Federation for alleged fraud against her rivals at the Republican Dagestan Championship in Makhachkala.
Reported by ABC News, Friday, August 9, the President of the Russian Chess Federation, Andrey Filatov, said his organization temporarily suspended Aakarova from all competitions until law enforcement agencies completed the investigation.

Sports Minister Dagestan Sazhid Sahidov said Aakarova had sprinkled her chessboard and her opponent's piece with mercury powder. This incident was caught on CCTV surveillance cameras.
"The actions he took could have brought the saddest results. This promise threatens the lives of everyone in the chess room, including himself. Now he must be held accountable for his actions before the law," said Sazhidov.
