Transvestite Contest at Orchardz Hotel Central Jakarta Draws Criticism, Islamic Mass Organizations Ask Police to Take Immediate and Decisive Action

JAKARTA - The transgender beauty contest or waria contest held at the Orchardz Hotel, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta, has finally reaped controversy.

The Head of the Executive Board (DPP) of Islamic Brotherhood Front (FPI) for Advocacy, Azis Yanuar, also highlighted the case that has gone viral and become a public discussion. FPI strongly condemns the incident, especially since it occurred in Central Jakarta.

"We strongly condemn the incident that occurred in Jakarta and it is very surprising, we just found out about this. This is a big disgrace for Jakarta and an embarrassment for the Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi and the Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Karyoto," Azis told VOI, Wednesday, August 7.

FPI also urged the police to investigate and arrest all parties involved in the illegal transgender beauty contest in Central Jakarta.

"We urge the police to arrest all parties involved and severely punish the masterminds behind the incident," he said.

In the near future, FPI will immediately write to the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) and the National Police regarding the transgender beauty contest.

"In the near future, we will immediately write to the Police and DPRD to be able to specifically resolve the case and ensure that it does not happen again in the future," he said.

Previously reported, the transgender or waria beauty contest held at the Orchardz Hotel, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta, received strong criticism from netizens.

"They say in Aceh even dating is not allowed.. What's this like?," wrote the account @dimascindyy_18, quoted by VOI, Tuesday, August 6.

The transgender contest activity that was recorded on amateur video and went viral on social media has also begun to be criticized by netizens.

"Aceh is a devout city, why is it like this," wrote a comment from the account @ndram.

"They say it's the veranda of Mecca," wrote @aristriyono89.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Central Jakarta Metro Police conducted an investigation related to the transgender or waria beauty contest event held at the Orchardz Hotel, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta last Sunday, August 4.

The Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro stated that the event also did not have an official permit.

"The contest did not have any permit," Senior Commissioner Susatyo told VOI, Tuesday, August 6.
