9 Fishing Boats Arrested By The Thousand Islands KPKP Sub-Department

JAKARTA - The Thousand Islands Regency Food, Maritime and Agriculture Security Service (KPKP Sub-Department) arrested nine fishing boats. They were secured for operating in the waters using prohibited fishing gear.

Head of the Thousand Islands KPKP Sub-Department, Nurliati, said that of the 9 fishing boats arrested, three of them used mini-Purse seine.

"We have arrested nine ships, six ships using a mini-purpose seine fishing gear which is a prohibited fishing gear," said Nurliati in her statement, Monday, August 5.

Nurliati explained that the 9 ships that were found occurred when her party monitored and supervised marine and fishery resources in the waters of the Thousand Islands which took place during the period from July 31 to August 2, 2024.

"Supervision is carried out in the waters around Untung Jawa Island, Lancang Island, Kelapa Dua Island, Tidung Island and Panggang Island," he said.

Nurliati said the inspection was carried out starting from fishing zones, ship documents, environmentally friendly fishing gear, and safety equipment.

He said that the three ships using the cantrang came from Rawa Saban, Tangerang. In addition, six ships using equipment and ships came from Brebes, Central Java.

"For nine ships that violate the regulations, coaching has been carried out to change environmentally friendly fishing gear and returned to the port of origin," he explained

Then his party also carried out guidance to make arrests in accordance with the arrest permit. He hopes that this activity can increase the awareness of fishermen to be able to comply with shipping regulations.
