PaleMBANG - Center for Drug and Food Checks (BBPOM) Palembang City, South Sumatra conducted laboratory tests on a spray candy product. "Yes, the spray candy has expired since April 11, 2023. Previously, a number of students at SD Negeri 39 Palembang experienced nausea and some of them were suspected of being poisoned after consuming the candy. He added that the spray drink sold at SD Negeri 39 Palembang has been registered and the spray candy is currently still being examined in the laboratory. His party is still waiting for the results of the examination. "We are still testing the sample with the same parameters to see the level of chemical pollution contained," he said. He mentioned that there were 14 students who consumed the spray candy snacks where 12 children experienced symptoms and four underwent treatment at the hospital but the students who were treated had recovered after receiving medical treatment. To anticipate the recurrence the whole spray candy has now been withdrawn from the school canteen. Previously, the Palembang City Education Office, South Sumatra handled the case of students suspected of being poisoned in one of the elementary schools (SD). Head of the Palembang City Education Office Adrianus Amri in Palembang, Tuesday said that the case of four elementary school students in Palembang City was suspected of being poisoned, which the student is currently being treated at the hospital. "Yes, it is true that there are four 39 Palembang Elementary School students who are being treated in hospital due to school snacks poisoning in the canteen," he said. He added that he would also coordinate with related parties to examine what the content of the drink, causing poisoned students who led to seizures and shortness of breath until they had to be rushed to the hospital. He added that his party also checked to SD 39 to see bottled bottles of drinks suspected to be the cause of poisoning.

Amri appealed to all elementary school students and parents to be careful in buying food so that this incident does not happen again. "In addition to canteen traders, we also urge students and parents of students to be careful in buying snacks that are paying attention to children's health," he concluded.
