The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Medan District Attorney's Office (Kejari), North Sumatra demanded the death penalty for two defendants who were couriers of methamphetamine weighing 53 kg and 10 thousand happy five pills.

"Asking the panel of judges to sentence the defendants Dedi Noviyana (29), and Tanajudin (28), each with the death penalty," said Medan Prosecutor Nurhendayani Nasution, at the Medan District Court as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 1.

The Public Prosecutor stated that the two defendants were found guilty of violating Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

As for the aggravating things the actions of the two defendants, he continued, were because they did not support the government's program to eradicate drugs.

"Meanwhile, no mitigating factors were found," said Nurhendayani.

After listening to the demands of the Medan Prosecutor's Office, Chief Judge Lucas Sahabat Duha postponed the trial and continued until next week.

"The trial continued on Thursday (8/8), with the agenda of defending the two defendants and their legal advisors," said Lucas.

In the previous indictment, Public Prosecutor Nurhendayani explained that this case began on Thursday (25/1).

At that time, the defendant Dedi was contacted by Toman who was on the wanted list (DPO) to deliver narcotics to Pekanbaru City, Riau.

"Then the defendant Dedi invited Tanajudin to depart from Soekarno-Hatta Airport to Pekanbaru on Monday (29/1) at 10.30 WIB," he said.

When he arrived in Pekanbaru City, the prosecutor continued, the two defendants rented a boarding house. Then Toman contacted the defendant Dedi by sending his cellphone number to a man who was delivering drugs.

"After communicating with the man delivering the methamphetamine, the defendant Dedi was sent to the location where he took 53 kg of crystal methamphetamine and 10 thousand happy pills in the car that had been prepared," said the prosecutor.

Defendant Dedi then went to the location to take drugs using a public vehicle, while the defendant Tanajudin waited in the boarding room.

When he arrived at the intended location, the defendant Dedi saw a Daihatsu Xenia car parked with a key hanging. Defendant Dedi immediately checked the trunk of the car by looking at four burlaps containing methamphetamine and happy five pills.

"The defendant Dedi took the car to the boarding house. However, while in the middle of the car driven by the defendant Dedi, he was stopped by the Medan Police Narcotics Unit," said Nurhendayani.

During the examination, the police found four burlaps containing methamphetamine and happy five pills from the trunk of the car driven by the defendant Dedi.

During interrogation, the defendant Dedi admitted that the evidence belonged to Toman. He was only given the task of taking and checking and delivering the methamphetamine and happy five pills.

To the police, the defendant Dedi said he picked up methamphetamine to Pekanbaru City assisted by the defendant Tanajudin who was waiting in the boarding house-board room.

The police then went straight to the boarding house to secure the defendant Tanajudin. The two defendants along with evidence of 53 kg of crystal methamphetamine and 10 thousand happy five pills were brought to the Medan Polrestabes for further processing.
