Garut Police Make Sure The Suspect In The Mutilation Case Is Still Being Processed By Law Even Though It Is ODGJ

Garut Resort Police said the results of the examination by a team of psychiatrists stated that the suspect in the mutilation case in Garut Regency, West Java, was a person with a mental disorder (ODGJ). But the perpetrators are still being prosecuted for the case, which was handed over to the Garut District Attorney.

"Yes, ODGJ," said Head of the Garut Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Ari Rinaldo, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 1.

The police have named Erus (23) a Garut resident as a suspect in the mutilation of someone whose identity is still mysterious in Cibalong District, Garut, Sunday, June 30, 2024.

The police involved a team of psychiatrists to check the condition of the suspect in Bandung. As a result, it was discovered that the suspect was in a mental condition.

Ari said that although the suspect had a mental disorder medically, the legal process was still ongoing to hand over the files to the public prosecutor of the Garut District Attorney's Office.

"We will continue to file and delegate it to the public prosecutor," he said.

Since Erus was arrested moments after carrying out his mutilation, the police immediately detained him, then taken to the Sartika Asih Police Hospital in Bandung to undergo a mental examination.

The results of the medical statement became the basis for the police to be included in the file of the mutilation case to the Garut District Attorney's Office which will then be tried.

"The one who determines what the punishment will be, that's the panel of judges," said Ari.

Previously, residents were shocked by the suspect's act of mutilating several parts of the victim whose identities were still mysterious on the side of the road in the Cibalong District, Garut.

The victim was then taken to the Dr. Slamet Garut Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for examination and identification, but the result was that the identity of the victim was unknown.

The police have also made efforts to track the identity of the victim, but the results have not been detected.
