Sandiaga Uno Affirms Will Not Run For West Java Gubernatorial Election

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno emphasized that he will not run in this year's West Java gubernatorial election.

"Because the time is no longer possible, I did not participate in the contestation in West Java," said Sandiaga while attending the Perindo Mukernas, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, July 31.

Sandiaga admitted that he was not good enough to compete in the 2024 Pilkada contestation in West Java. Because, according to him, regional heads in West Java must have a deep understanding to build the province.

Moreover, the West Java gubernatorial candidate market has now been filled with many names, including the incumbent, Ridwan Kamil, who has led West Java for the 2018-2023 period.

"Incumbents who have been fostering and active electorally in West Java for a long time who have higher opportunities and are much more likely to get maximum results in West Java," explained Sandiaga.

Initially, the National Awakening Party (PKB) had glanced at Sandiaga Uno to be promoted in the West Java gubernatorial election. However, now PKB sees the electability of the PPP politician as low.

Acting Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Muhammad Mardiono said Sandiaga Uno had not shown interest in running as a candidate for governor-deputy in the 2024 Pilkada.

Sandiaga, admitted Mardiono, had never reported to PPP to discuss the gubernatorial election.

"Until now, Mr. Sandi has never communicated with all of us for interest or interest in nominating the governor, yes. It never happened," said Mardiono at the Jakarta Convention Center, Tuesday, July 23.
