Malaysia's Head of Statistics, Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahudin said, his citizen population increased from 30.4 million in 2023 to 30.7 million in 2024 with a slower growth rate of 0.7 percent from 0.8 percent in the previous year.

"Similarly, non-state residents show the same trend as the slower growth rate of 13.6 percent in 2024 compared to 17.1 percent in 2023," he said in a statement, quoted from Bernama, 31 July.

He explained that the three states with the highest population percentage in 2024 were Selangor (21.6 percent), followed by Johor (12.3 percent) and Sabah (11.0 percent), while Labuan and Putrajaya recorded the lowest population percentage of 0.3 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively.

The composition of people aged 0-14 years (young age) in 2024 decreased to 22.2 oersen compared to 2023 at 22.7 percent.

Furthermore, Uzir said the composition of the population aged 15-64 years (workage) in Malaysia increased from 69.9 percent in 2023 to 70.1 percent in 2024.

Meanwhile, the percentage of people aged 65 years and over (age) increased from 7.4 percent to 7.7 percent in the same period.

Bumiputera reached 70.4 percent of the 30.7 million population by 2024 (2023: 70.1 percent), but the composition of the Chinese and Indian population decreased to 22.4 percent (2023: 22.6 percent) and 6.5 percent (2023: 6.6 percent), respectively. percent).

In terms of gender, the number of men is more than that of women, namely 17.9 million and 16.2 million respectively this year, with the ratio of gender to the overall population being 111 men for every 100 women.

"Overall, all states in Malaysia recorded the number of men exceeding the number of women except Perlis (99) and WP Putrajaya (98)," he said.

"The states that recorded the highest gender ratio were Kuala Lumpur with 117 men per 100 women, followed by Johor (116), Selangor (115), and Pahang (114)," continued Uzir.
