Ciena Study: The Importance Of Utilization Of AI For Communication Service Providers In Indonesia

JAKARTA Global study of Ciena released in May revealed that 65 percent of communication service providers in Indonesia are confident in the ability of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in optimizing networks. Increasing network operational efficiency is believed to be able to reach 40 percent or even more. This is very likely to happen because AI can help service providers in managing to consolidate datasets in databases. In addition, AI can detect trends and anomalies in the network by analyzing datasets so that network security and availability can be increased. AI is also able to lower latency, increase data transfer speed, and more. The most important thing is that AI is able to prevent network disruption. Gambling Hartono, Indonesia Country Lead Ciena, explains that AI can detect networks to predict various issues that may arise in the future. "AI can regularly detect patterns (networks) to predict potential problems before such problems arise and identify and implement solutions proactively, so as to prevent disruption," Judi told VOI. In preventing network disruption, AI will manage network complexity with rapid response, overcome network outage by periodic detection, and maximize available resources.

As long as using AI, customer data security must be considered very well. Gambling says that AI and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms can detect potential security breaches, predict problems before they occur, and look for causes of problems. In other words, AI does not increase security risks, but reduce security concerns. However, AI systems must also be designed with layered security such as, "application of encryption, access control, and routine audits to keep customer data." Although the use of AI can facilitate workflows and improve network efficiency, AI implementation is not as easy as imagined. Indonesia has great potential in advancing AI, but service providers must have the appropriate network capacity. "There are determining factors for success that must be prepared and network capacity to handle demand and new bandwidth usage patterns in the AI era," Judi said. "Managing communication needs... is not just the responsibility of network providers. The entire telecommunication ecosystem needs to collaborate."
