Many Children Play Online Gambling, Here Are The Steps Taken By Kominfo

JAKARTA - The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) reported that there were around 80,000 children under the age of 10 who played online gambling. Meanwhile, children aged between 10 and 20 years were 440,000 people.

Responding to the report, the Director General of Information and Public Communication (IKP) of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Usman Kansong, said that on average, minors who play online gambling through games.

"Based on our identification, these children play online gambling, generally through online games, online gambling that is camouflaged as if they were online games, something like that," said Usman at the Ngopi Bareng Kominfo event Friday, July 26.

Furthermore, Usman also said that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics had taken steps to prevent children from playing online gambling, which resembled online games.

First, Kominfo has issued Ministerial Regulation (Permen) of Kominfo No. 2 of 2024 concerning the Classification of Electronic Interactive Games.

"In the Kominfo Regulation, it is clear that games should not contain online gambling for any age classification," explained Usman.

In addition, Kominfo is also working with a number of stakeholders such as the Commission for the Protection of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) in eradicating online gambling.

"KPPA is ready to conduct or provide psychological consultations for children who play online gambling," he said.
