WhatsApp Will Present An AirDrop-like Feature For IPhone Users
JAKARTA - WhatsApp is developing a new feature that allows users to share files without an internet connection, similar to Apple's AirDrop. This feature, which was first tested on Android, seems to be also available to iPhone users.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp's latest beta version for iOS available on the TestFlight includes the "nearby Share" feature. With this feature, users can share photos, videos, and documents with people around wirelessly using an end-to-end encrypted connection. However, due to the limitations of iOS, this feature will work slightly differently for iPhone users.
While Android versions of WhatsApp can detect nearby devices, iOS versions will require users to scan QR codes to start file sharing. Interesting details of Nearby Share are its ability to work between iOS and Android, which will make it easier for users to transfer files even if they have different types of mobile phones.

However, although this feature has been found in the latest WhatsApp beta version, it is currently only available for internal testing. There are no details yet when Nearby Share will be available to users.
Earlier this month, WhatsApp introduced a new feature that gives users more context about unknown group chats. The platform also recently introduced the ability to send photos and videos in HD by default. In addition, as noted by MacMagazine, WhatsApp is also testing a new button to allow users to explore the available channels.
WhatsApp is available free of charge on the App Store. Please remember that it may take some time before this new feature appears on your device.
