Russia Faces Hundreds Of Forest Fires, 5,000 Officers Deployed
JAKARTA - The Russian forestry agency said it was extinguishing 222 separate fires in 20 regions, as the unusually hot summer sparked forest fires.
As reported by Reuters on Thursday, July 18, Russia's Federal Forest Management Agency said an emergency was imposed in the Yakutia and Zabahassky regions due to forest fires.
More than 5,000 people are working to extinguish fires across Russia.
Russia has been hit by increasingly destructive forest fires in recent years. According to experts, this was caused by rising temperatures due to climate change.
Earlier this month, authorities declared a state of emergency in the Yakutia and Tuva regions of Siberia, amid rising fires.
