Many Island Fishermen Injured Aceh Singkil Bitten By Crocodile

BANDA ACEH - Banyak Island Sector Police (Polsek), Aceh Singkil Police, stated that a fisherman in Banyak Barat District, Aceh Singkil Regency, was injured and treated at a local health center after being bitten by a crocodile while catching fish at sea.

Banyak Island Police Chief Iptu Erianto Tanjung said the victim Arisman Gulo, aged 26, was a resident of Kepeng Hamlet, Asantola Village, West Pulau Banyak District, Aceh Singkil Regency.

"The victim suffered serious injuries after being bitten by a crocodile while catching fish in the sea around the waters of Lahengkem, West Banyak Island District," said the police chief as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 17.

He said the incident of the victim being bitten by a crocodile occurred on Wednesday (17/7) at 01.00 WIB. The location of the incident was about 300 meters from Kepeng Hamlet, Asantola Village.

At that time, the victim and four colleagues searched for fish and sea cucumbers by swimming and diving. When his colleague returned by boat, the victim was still in the water. Suddenly the victim was attacked by a crocodile.

The victim managed to survive with a bite wound condition in a number of parts of his body. The victim was finally rescued by his colleague who saw the incident.

"The victim was rescued at around 04.00 WIB and immediately evacuated to the Puskesmas Pulau Banyak Barat. Currently, the victim is in medical treatment at the puskesmas," said Erianto Tanjung.

Pulau Banyak is an area in the form of a collection of small islands located west of Aceh Singkil Regency. The Pulau Banyak archipelago group is located in the Indian Ocean with a distance of about two hours of shipping from Singkil, the capital of Aceh Singkil Regency.
