The Chilean Foreigner Who Persecuted Customs Officers Was Tried At The Denpasar Court

DENPASAR - A foreign national (WNA) from Chile was tried at the Denpasar District Court, Bali, Tuesday, on charges of committing a criminal act of assault against a Customs and Excise officer.

Badung District Prosecutor Imam Ramdhoni charged Felipe Covarrubias Valdes with the article of persecution as regulated and subject to criminal penalties in the provisions of Article 351 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code (KUHP).

The prosecutor in his indictment revealed that the incident occurred on Friday, May 17, 2024, at around 14:15 WITA on Pura Kayu Putih Street, Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali.

The incident began when the witness and victim Angga Menuchtti Arios as a member of Customs and Excise along with Sub-Directorate II of the Bali Police's Narcotics Directorate was carrying out controllable delivery activities around the crime scene.

At that time, the witness parked his motorbike on the side of the road near the crime scene. Not long after, the defendant came angry and cursed the witness.

"Then to avoid a dispute, the witness rode his motorbike with the intention of moving the motorbike to another place, but at the same time the defendant kicked and hit the witness' left leg," said Ramdhoni as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 16.

After moving his motorbike, then witness Angga returned to the scene of the case to carry out his duties, but the defendant instead went to witness Angga and cursed the witness again.

After cursing, the defendant suddenly hit the victim Angga in the face and hit his nose.

After being beaten by the defendant, the witness left the scene and asked witness Sindhu Rizky Santoso as a member of Customs and Excise who was on duty to report the incident to the police.

Some time later, the defendant was arrested by a member of the police and taken to the Kuta Sector Police Office for follow-up.

Based on the Et Repertum Visum Letter UPTD of the North Kuta Health Center Number: 445/017/UKP/PKM dated May 17, 2024, witness Angga suffered several injuries to the victim's face.

"The male victim, aged forty years, was found abrasions due to blunt violence," said Attorney Imam Ramdhoni.
