Partnering With Vodafone, Meta Increase Network Efficiency On Video Views

JAKARTA Meta, the owner of Instagram and Facebook, is working with telecommunications company Vodafone to optimize short videos. This collaboration will improve network efficiency. Reporting from Reuters, enhanced video quality on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube has increased data usage. From this increase, the use of video networks takes up to 73 percent of traffic at most. Despite improving video quality in favor of users, this is detrimental to telecommunication operators, including Vodafone. They must bear the cost of increasing the network, while Big Tech companies are free of charge. By optimizing data usage in videos with Meta, Vodafone believes that this collaboration is the right step. Both companies can share cost dependent issues fairly.

"Meta's desire to optimize video submissions for its applications opens the way for the use of existing network resources more efficiently," said Head of Vodafone Network Officer Alberto Ripepi. Ripepi explained that optimizing this data network has been implemented across the Vodafone market in Europe. This collaboration will continue so that Vodafone can drive network efficiency. Meanwhile, Meta wants to work with more parties in suppressing video traffic on mobile networks. The company will cooperate with manufacturers of devices, equipment vendors, to a wider digital ecosystem.
