AMBON - The Ambon City Government (Pemkot) in Maluku Province, has raised the status of natural floods and landslides, which were previously on standby to become an emergency response.

"The status of the Ambon City natural disaster, which was previously on standby, has been upgraded to a disaster emergency response," said Ambon City Secretary Agus Ririmasse, in Ambon, Monday, June 8, as reported by Antara.

He said the coordination meeting for disaster management presented BMKG, the Maluku Provincial Transportation Service, Bappeda, and all teams agreed to increase their status to an emergency response.

The increase in status, the City Government has tried to show real work to help people who are victims of the disaster, namely by preparing proposals to provide handling.

"The Acting Mayor has asked to prepare a proposal to BNPB, soon the team will leave for Jakarta to meet one of the deputies to discuss handling floods and landslides in Ambon," he said.

He said that not only proposals were prepared, but also data on the results of technical studies, namely the PUPR and BPBD Offices, and would be accompanied by Bappeda Litbang.

Not only that, the real work that the City Government has done to residents is to visit the disaster site that occurred some time ago, to find out more closely the obstacles and problems that occur so that it is easily identified.

"The Acting Mayor ordered us to work together with BPBD to handle conditions in the field, especially disaster victims, to see flood conditions, to see landslides, broken roads," he said.

His party appealed to people living in disaster-prone areas to remain vigilant and monitor the warnings issued by BMKG and the City Government on social media.

"For residents of Ambon city to stay alert and monitor warnings from the BMKG as well as from posts circulated through social media, we have directed the warning to be carried out per day and per hour. The point is to remain vigilant for families who are at disaster-prone points," he said.

The public is also asked to immediately report to BPBD through RT/RW devices or village/district governments in the event of a disaster.
