Jokowi Regarding Presidential Decree On Hasyim Asy'ari's Dismissal: Wong Hasn't Arrived At My Desk

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that he would soon sign a Presidential Decree (Kepres) regarding the dismissal of Hasyim Asy'ari from the position of Chairman and member of the General Elections Commission (KPU).

"(The Presidential Decree) has not yet arrived at my desk. When I arrive at my desk, I open it, I sign it," said President Jokowi after releasing Indonesia's assistance for disaster management in Papua New Guinea and Afghanistan, at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, Monday, July 8, which was confiscated by Antara.

Regarding when the Presidential Decree will be signed, the President again emphasized that the Presidential Decree has not yet arrived at his desk.

"Wong has not yet arrived at my desk," he said.

Furthermore, regarding the existence of public votes that say that the KPU does not deserve to be the organizer of the election, the impact of the Hasyim case, Jokowi denied this.

"Oh, it's been a success, holding the presidential election well and smoothly, there's no problem," said Jokowi.

Earlier on Wednesday, July 3, the Indonesian DKPP imposed a permanent dismissal sanction for the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, in connection with the alleged immoral case.

"Imposing a permanent dismissal sanction to the defendant Hasyim Asy'ari as chairman and concurrently member of the Indonesian General Elections Commission, this decision is read out," said Chairman of the Indonesian DKPP Heddy Lugito in a hearing to read the verdict at the DKPP RI Office, Jakarta, Wednesday.

In addition, the Indonesian DKPP granted the complainant's complaint entirely, then asked the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo to replace Hasyim within the period of the day's decision since the verdict was read.

"The president of the Republic of Indonesia to carry out this decision no later than seven days after the verdict was read," he said.
