SYL Demanded 12 Years In Prison And A Fine Of IDR 500 Million

JAKARTA - Former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) is considered by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) to have fulfilled the criminal element in the case of alleged extortion and acceptance of gratuities. SYL was charged with imprisonment for 12 years.

"The defendant Syahrul Yasin Limpo was sentenced to 12 years in prison, reduced while the defendant was in detention and criminally," said Attorney Meyer during a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Friday, June 28.

SYL was also charged with a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

The former Minister of Agriculture was charged with paying replacement money of around Rp44 billion and 30 thousand US dollars. If you do not have the ability to replace it, you will be sentenced to 4 years in prison.

"To charge the defendant Syahrul Yasin Limpo to pay compensation of Rp44,269,777,204 and US$30 thousand, subsidiary to 4 years in prison," said the prosecutor.

The claim was given by the KPK prosecutor because SYL's actions were deemed to have fulfilled Article 12 letter e in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code as the first alternative indictment.
