Ukrainian Attack Makes Russian Druzhba Oil Pipe Depot Fire

JAKARTA - The Ukrainian drone strike caused a fire at the oil depot for Russia's Druzhba pipeline in the Tambov region southeast of Moscow, Russia. The fire was extinguished hours later.

The Regional Governor of Maksim Yegorov reported that the fire at the oil depot did not cause any injuries, reported by Reuters, Friday, June 28.

Ukraine stepped up attacks on Russian oil reservoirs, having previously attacked a number of refineries in attacks that caused significant disruption.

The attack was aimed at infrastructure that supports Moscow's war efforts. Meanwhile, Russia had previously frequently attacked Ukrainian power plants.

The Druzhba pipeline is one of the largest parts of the Russian pipeline monopoly system Transneft. The line begins in central Russia and connects Western Siberian oil fields with major oil refineries in Europe.

Druzhba was able to supply 2 million barrels per day but its flow declined sharply after the European Union stopped buying Russian oil following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
