2 People Died As A Result Of Mortar Attacks On South African Military Bases In Congo

JAKARTA - The mortar attack on South African military bases in the Democratic Republic of Congo killed two people and injured 20 others.

South African troops are in Congo as part of the deployment of the South African regional bloc SADC to help governments fight insurgent groups.

The four members who were seriously injured were hospitalized, while the rest who suffered minor injuries are expected to be discharged soon, South Africa's National Defense Force said.

In February another mortar attack on a South African base in Congo killed two people and injured three others.

At that time President Cyril Ramaphosa replied that the opposition criticism of the South African contingent in Congo did not have adequate equipment.
