Sam Altman Considers Changing Governance Structures To OpenAI Business
JAKARTA - Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, told several shareholders that the company is considering changing the governance structure into a for-profit business that is not controlled by the company's non-profit board. This was first reported by The Information on Friday, June 14.
One of the scenarios that Altman said the council was considering was being a for-profit benefit corporation, used by competitors such as Anthropic and xAI, according to the report citing a source who heard the comments.

Discussions on this restructuring are still very fluid and Altman and other directors have finally decided to take a different approach, added a report from The Information.
"We remain focused on AI development that is beneficial to everyone. Nonprofit organizations are at the heart of our mission and will continue to exist," a OpenAI spokesperson said in response to the report.
