JAKARTA - Starlink's presence in Indonesia still has many questions to date. Commission I of the DPR RI urges the government so that cooperation with Elon Musk does not interfere with the local telecommunications industry.
In the Working Meeting of the Minister of Communication and Information with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, member of Commission I from the Golkar faction, Nurul Arifin, who suggested that Starlink be used for people in the 3T region.
"If we see why not in 3T only Starlink operate, why should it be at the center, is there any request or compensation requested by Starlink?" said Nurul.
He also said, 'If we hope not to kill the domestic telecommunications industry, especially Telkom itself.'
Not only Nurul, several other members of Commission I DPR RI also asked the same thing. Responding to this concern, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi emphasized that Starlink's presence would not kill local industries.

Budi also said he had discussed with local cellular operators. According to Budi, Starlink's presence can actually stimulate local industries to issue Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
"So, why should we be afraid of Starlink. I have explained to the South (cell phone operator), when we are afraid, just launch LEO. So it could be a cut for them," said Budi.
"So the cut is also for friends with cellular telecommunications operators and operators to also improve, especially in terms of the technology aspect," he continued.
